LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - JUNE 10, 2018 LeRoy Little League A’s 5 White Sox 2 An anticipated pitcher’s duel would not disappoint as A’s starter Ryan Shirley and White Sox ace Tommy “smooth” Condidorio would battle it out in a close game on Tuesday night. Both pitchers kept the ball down all night and used off speed pitches to keep the hitters guessing. They combined for 14 strike- outs and no walks in the contest. The A’s would get things going in the first. Jackson Fix would lead off with a single and score on a Zach Tool- ey triple. Tooley would later score on an RBI by Hayven Cordes and the A’s would take a 2-0 lead. The White Sox got one back in the third when Parker Dowell roped a double and scored on a hit by Condidorio that would plate the run. Condidorio would be thrown out from the wall by Tooley as he tried to stretch the triple to end the threat and leave the score 2-1. In the bottom of the inning the A’s would get what proved to be the winning runs. Back to back singles by Fix and Shirley were followed up by a 2-RBI double by Grady Gilligan. Gil- ligan would later score on another dou- ble, this time by Kaden Berger to make it 5-1 A’s. Dowell would score again in the top of the 5th following a single by Jude Sherman and Landon Saeva. Con- nor Elmore would make a nice play at third base to end the threat making the score 5-2 A’s. Dowell and Condidorio would finish the day with 2 hits apiece for the Sox, while Sherman, Saeva, Joe Costa and Brandon Chase would also chip in with one hit a piece. Fix and Shirley each had 2 hits for the A’s, while Tooley, Gilligan, Cordes and Berger managed 1 hit each. Condidorio was replaced by Parker Dowell and Shirley by Gilligan in the six inning with each pitcher al- lowing no runs. Indians 5 Red Sox 3 The Indians and Red Sox would play for the second time this season. The visiting Indians would get on the board in top half of the 1st after Cal Koukides crossed the plate. The Red Sox would answer in the home half when Tony Martinez scored on a passed ball. The Indians would break the tie in the top of the 3rd inning after Iaein Frawley drove in Chase Cummings and Cal Koukides. Jagger Smith would grab an RBI single plating Frawley. The Sox would cut into the lead in the bottom of the 3rd after Josh Horner hit in Joey Stephany who tripled earlier. The Indians would grab another run in the top of the 5th with Austin Bogue coming around on a throwing error. Zander Cole would make the score 5-3 after being driven in by Josh Horner. Both teams were held scoreless to make the final 5-3. Austin Bogue took the hill for the Indians going 5 innings allowing 3 runs on 7 hits while striking out 10. Josh Horner started for the Red Sox and pitched well allowing 5 runs on 8 hits while striking out 5. Hitting for the Indians were Chase Cummings (2 hits), Cal Kou- kides, Iaein Frawley (2 hits), Austin Bogue (2 hits), and Jagger Smith. Hit- ting for the Red Sox were Josh Horner (2 hits), Joey Stephany (triple, single), Tony Martinez, Alex Stephany, and Zander Cole. Orioles 12 Yankees 3 The Orioles and Yankees met Wednesday night for the second time this season. The visiting Yankees got things started in the top of the first when Xavien Walker singled and was later driven in by an Andrew Pocock single. The Orioles answered in the bottom of the inning. Drew Strollo doubled and later scored on a Merritt Holly triple. Holden Sullivan was hit by a pitch, and he and Holly later scored on a big 2 RBI single by Jace Jedrewski to give the Ori- oles a 3-1 lead after 1. Pitcher Drew Strollo held the Yankees scoreless in the 2nd and helped himself out in the bottom of the inning. After singling with 2 outs, Strollo would steal around the bases to extend the lead to 4-1. In the top of the 3rd, the Yan- kees tightened the game by scoring 2 runs. Jake Higgins started the inning with a double, followed by a walk to Luke Lathan. Andrew Pocock deliv- ered again with a double scoring both runners. The Orioles answered again in the bottom of the inning. A single by Holden Sullivan and double by Jace Je- drewski set the platter for Martin Mac- Connell, who delivered with a big 2 run triple to extend the Orioles lead to 6-3. Orioles pitcher Drew Strollo and reliever Merritt Holly settled in allow- ing no runs for the rest of the game. The Orioles added 6 runs in the 5th inning, highlighted by a 2 run single by White Sox rental Brayden Chase to finish the scoring at 12-3 in favor of the Orioles. For the Yankees, Xavien Walker and Andrew Pocock both had a single and double, with Walker scoring and Pocock driving in 3. Jake Higgins also doubled and scored while Luke Lathan walked and scored. Simon Greene and Nate Pangrazio also drew walks. Drew Strollo earned the win on the mound for the Orioles, striking out 11 and walking 3. Merritt Holly closed the game, striking out 4 of the 5 batters he faced. Offensively, Strollo (3 runs, double, RBI), Adrian Stephens (double, triple, 2 RBI), Holly (run, triple, RBI), Holden Sullivan (3 runs), and Jace Je- drewski (run, double, 2 RBI) all had 2 hits. Martin MacConnell added a tri- ple, 2 walks, a run, and 2 RBI. Brady McClurg scored and had an RBI, while Isaac Stella also scored and Brayden Chase helped out the Orioles with a hit, run, and 2 RBI. Twins 12 A’s 8 Thursday, May 31 saw the vis- iting A’s meet up with the home team Twins for their 2nd contest of the year on a sultry night racing against the in- coming rain. Ayden Riggi took the mound for the Twins and quickly served up a hit to Jackson Fix who smacked the first pitch he saw just past the hole at shortstop, Ryan Shirley would fly out to Evan Rose notching a great catch for the first out. Zach Tooley picked up a 2B & RBI, Grady Gilligan got a sac fly & an RBI to round out the A’s 1st inning runs. The Twins came up to bat down by 2 but that wouldn’t last long. Jackson Fix starting for the A’s gave up a single to Adam Woodworth. Jake Iten & Tony Piazza would both draw walks before Ayden Riggi slapped a line drive double out to right field plating 2 runs. Jack Egeling drawing a BB would force a pitching change; Grady Gilligan came into a bases loaded situation and struck out his 1st batter. Dylan Maciag stepped into the box and destroyed the only pitch he’d need to see for a no doubter that got over the wall in left center in a hurry. Dylan’s first career Little League home run was a GRAND SLAM!! He crossed the plate surrounded by his teammates waiting to congratulate him, way to go Dylan!! The score was now 6-2 heading into the 2nd inning. Jackson Fix would ROE and come around to score the A’s only run of the inning. The Twins would plate 4 more runs in their half. Woodworth took over pitching for the Twins and put up a quick 3rd inning then led for his team picking up a 2B hit; he would come around to score the only run of the inning on an RBI 2B hit fromAyden Riggi. Heading into the 5th the score sat at 12-4 in favor of the Twins. A’s batters would start a rally as Connor Elmore lead off with a nice 2B. Jacob Elmore picked up a single moving his brother over & Kyle Northrup plated them both with a solid hit. Fix got his 2nd 2B hit of the night and Ryan Shirley followed that up with 2RBI 2B hit of his own to fin- ish up the scoring for the A’s half. Tony Piazza would close out the game on the mound for the Twins as they secured a final score of 12-8 win. Dylan Maciag led the Twins go- ing 3-3 with 2 singles and a grand slam picking up 6 RBI’s! Woodworth 1B, 2B & 2 runs scored. Jake Iten 1BB, 1B, 2 runs scored, Tony Piazza 1B, BB 2 runs scored. Ayden Riggi 2 2B, 3 RBI’s and a run scored. Jack Egeling 1B, 1BB, 1RBI & 2 runs scored. Isaac Furr HBP, 1B & 3RBI’s. Pitching was a combined effort fromAyden Riggi, Adam Woodworth & Tony Piazza. Pitching for the A’s was also a group effort from Jackson Fix, Grady Gilligan & Zach Tooley. Hitting for the A’s, Jackson Fix was on base 4 times with a 1B, 2 2B & ROE, scoring 4 runs. Ryan Shirley 1B, 2B, 3 RBI’s. Zach Tooley 1B, 2B, run scored. Grady Gilligan 2BB, 1B & an RBI. Connor Elmore BB, 2B, ROE & a run scored. Kaden Burger 1BB, Jacob Elmore 2B & a run scored. Hayven Cordes 1BB, Kyle Northrup 1B & 2 RBI’s. Orioles 7 Indians 3 The 9 AM game Saturday fea- tured the Orioles and Indians. The vis- iting Orioles started things off early in the top of the first. Drew Strollo singled and scored on an Adrian Stephens dou- ble. Stephens would later steal home to give the Orioles a 2-0 lead. Stephens started the game on the bump for the Orioles, shutting down the Indians in the first inning. After a scoreless top of the 2nd, the Indians cut the lead in half when Colin Greene knocked in Austin Bogue who had doubled to lead off the inning. In the top of the 3rd, the Orioles plated 2 more runs when Jace Jedrewski singled in Holden Sullivan who had doubled, and Josh Pfendler singled in Jedrewski. Stephens would hold the Indians score- less again in the bottom of the 3rd, pre- serving a 4-1 lead after 3. In the bottom of the 4th, Austin Bogue walked and later scored on a passed ball, cutting the Orioles lead to 4-2 after 4. In the top of the 5th, Don- ovan Gaillard walked to lead off the in- ning. A double by Drew Strollo would provide Adrian Stephens with an oppor- tunity for some insurance. He delivered with an RBI single, and he and Strollo would later score on a 2-run single by Merritt Holly. The Indians would score a run in the bottom of the 5th when Cal Koukides grounded out to knock in Chase Cummings, however would fall short in a comeback attempt 7-3. Chase Cummings singled twice and scored, while Austin Bogue dou- bled twice and scored twice for the In- dians. Cal Koukides also singled. Iaien Frawley and Jagger Smith shared the pitching duties for the Indians. Adrian Stephens was excellent on the mound for the Orioles, going 5 2/3 innings and striking out 4 to earn the victory. Merritt Holly threw one pitch to close out the game. The Orioles de- fense was solid all day highlighted by some great plays by Martin MacCon- nell at 2nd base, a double play by Drew Strollo, and a great catch in LF by Josh Pfendler. Offensively, Drew Strollo paced the offense with 3 hits including a double, 2 runs, and RBI. Stephens (double, 2 runs, 2 RBI), Holly (2 RBI), Holden Sullivan (double, run), Jace Jedrewski (run, RBI), and Josh Pfend- ler (double, RBI) all added 2 hits each. Martin MacConnell singled and walked twice, while Donovan Gaillard walked and scored for the O’s. Yankees 5 White Sox 4 For the home team Yankees Jake Higgins would get the start on the mound. The White Sox would get up early after Parker Dowell, and Jude Sherman drew walks and were scored on a 2 RBI double by Landen Saeva. Tom Condidorio then singled. Higgins would then settle in and strike out the next three batters. For the White Sox Tommy Condidorio would get the start on the mound. For the Yankees Jake Higgins drew a walk and was then scored on an RBI triple by Luke Lathan. Lathan was then scored on a sacrifice RBI by An- drew Pocock to put the game at 2-2 after the first inning. In the top of the second inning the White Sox’ Parker Dowell would double but was left on base. The Yankees would add 2 runs in the sec- ond after Jacob Tracy reached base and Avante Walker laid down a perfect bunt. Both Jacob and Avante would be scored on an Xavien Walker 2 RBI double. Af- ter 2 innings the Yankees 4 White Sox 2. In the top of the third, Tom Con- didorio would triple and score after a Brayden Chase RBI single to put the game at 4 to 3 in favor of the Yankees.
