Both the girls’ soft- ball team and the track team had the LeRoy Fire Department busy giving the hero’s welcome back home. Take it from a guy who has been in over a dozen of these in his life time “they never get old” and it is a tradition that shows just what it’s like to have community spirit. Years ago, when the Village decided to join county dispatch there was a fear that this would go away, the Fire Department wasn’t going to let that happen. The Fire Depart- ment is much more to this com- munity than just people who put out fires, they are engrained in every aspect of our life, from preparing for storms, pumping basements, fires, and probably what they like the best is the hero’s welcome. Thanks to the men and women of the LFD. The question has been asked why fix the damn gates? Well the primary reason is to keep the water flowing over the damn. The gates leak, and in the past a dry summer leads to low water levels that become stag- nate and unsightly. It is one of those things that it’s not a big deal until it happens. We have the opportunity to fix them with half of the money coming from a grant from Genesee County Soil and Water. The gates are about 50 years old and it is a great time to be proactive to get these fixed. Thanks to the American Le- gion Post for the great Memorial Service on Memorial Day, as al- ways well done. Summer looks to be here, I will try to keep you up to date the activities that are coming up. I’m sure Jackie Whiting and her staff will have a full slate of ac- tivities to keep everybody busy for the summer. Pools and parks open June 20th, the recreation booklets were handed out in school. Pool memberships and swimming lesson signups will be 6/16 from 10am- 1 pm, 6/18 5 pm – 7 pm at the Town Hall, 48 Main St. Also, you will hear more about the Farmers’ Market and what they have going on in my column. Opening day is June 16th. Lastly my wife was on face book and read the John Armino story, anyone who doesn’t know it should ask about it, actually it should be told in our school, be- cause right here in our commu- nity it shows what bravery is all about. There was a great quote at the end of the article, but I’m not sure who wrote it. “A bridge that falls, makes 40 times greater sound than the one that stands” 1 Church St. • LeRoy, NY 14482 585.768.2201 www. l pg r aph i c s. ne t EMBROIDERY
