LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - MAY 20, 2018 LeRoy Little League Tigers 11 Twins 6 The Tigers and Twins would play the first half of a double header on the third Monday of the season. Jackson Spezzano and Adam “Bucha” Woodworth would start on the mound for the Tigers and Twins respectively. The Twins would strike first plating two runs in the top of the 1st inning. After Adam Wood- worth reached on an error, Jacob Iten would single, followed by a walk by Tony Piazza and 2 RBI double by Jacob Iten. Twins 2, Tigers 0. After a scoreless top half of the 2nd inning, the Tigers would score 4 runs to take a 4-2 lead. Josh Noble led off with a dou- ble. After a ground out for the first out,Aidan Weaver doubled home Noble. Matt Covert singled followed by RBI singles by Alex Spezzano and Jackson Spez- zano. Tigers 4, Twins 2. The Twins would come back with 2 of their own to start the 3rd inning. Adam Woodworth reached first based followed by a double by Jacob Iten and 2 RBI double by Tony Piazza. Tigers 4, Twins 4. The Tigers would answer with 4 more runs of their own in the bottom half of the 4th inning. With one out, Alex Spezzano singled followed by an RBI single by Jackson Spezzano, RBI double by Connor Hegeman, single by Lily Uberty, single by Josh No- ble and RBI single by Noah Kaczanowski. Tigers 8, Twins 4. The Twins would plate their last run of the game in the 5th inning when Aiden Riggi singled home Adam Woodworth who had reached on a walk. The Tigers would score 3 more runs in the bottom half of the 5th on a RBI single by Connor Hegeman and 2 RBI double by Lily Uberty. Tigers 11, Twins 6 Leading the Tigers offensively was Alex Spezzano who was 3-3 with a double, walk, RBI and 3 runs scored. Jackson Spezzano was 3-4 with 2 RBI’s and 2 runs scored. Connor Hegeman was 2-4 with a double, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Lily Uberty was 2-4 with a double and a run scored. Noah Kaczanowski added 2 singles and a RBI, Aidan Weaver singled, doubled and added a RBI; Matt Covert singled and scored a run. Jackson Spezzano threw 4 1/3 innings surrendering 4 hits while striking out 9. Lily Uberty pitched the final 1 2/3, striking out 4. Offensively for the Twins, Jacob Iten was 2-2 with a walk, double and 2 runs scored. Aiden Riggi was 2-3 with a double and 2 RBI, Tony Piazza was 1-1 with 2 walks, 2 RBI and a run scored. Adam Woodworth scored a run. Adam Woodworth pitch 4 1/3 innings, striking out 4. Jacob Iten recorded the final 3 outs for the Twins. Red Sox 11 Orioles 8 The Red Sox were able to pick up their second win of the season over the Orioles by a score of 11-8. The Sox fell behind early but were able to fight back by using timely hitting and effective pitching. The Sox scored in their half of the when Tony Martinez singled and eventually scored on a passed ball making it 1-0. The Orioles wasted no time in their half of the inning. Drew Strollo, Adrian Stephens and Jace Jedrewski all had base hits and scored. Martin McConnell added a RBI single. Orioles 3-1 The Sox couldn’t score in the 2nd inning and the Orioles extended their lead to 5-1 when Josh Pfen- dler and Drew Strollo singled and scored in their half of the frame. The Orioles lead 5-1. The bats came alive for the Sox in the 3rd. Jer- emiah Sheehan’s walk was followed by 3 consecutive singles by Josh Horner, Joey Stephany and Martinez. All 4 would eventually score, tying it up 5-5. In the O’s half of the inning McConnell would come around to score wen Pfendler picked up his second hit of the day, an RBI double. O’s lead 6-5. The Sox responded however scoring 4 runs of their own in the top of the 4th. Walks to Jayce Pane- pento and Zander Cole started the inning followed by singles by J.Stephany, Martinez and Wyatt Draper. The runs would give the Sox a 9-6 lead as the O’s were unable to score in their half. The Sox didn’t score in the top of the fifth and the Orioles took advantage scoring 2 in their half. Once again McConnell and Pfendler scored. This time on a Strollo single. Sox 9-8. The Sox tacked on a couple insurance runs in the top of the 6th. Horner(single) an Martinez(FC) reached base and scored on a huge RBI single from Peter Clark that bounced high off the first base bag and allowed both runners to score. Sox lead 11-8 and would hang on for the win when the O’s couldn’t score in the bottom of the 6th. Horner and Stephany shared the pitching duties for the Sox. Horner got the win going 4 2/3 innings and striking out 9. Stephany got the save by pitching the last 1 1/3. He struck out 1. Merritt Holly pitched the first 3 1/3 innings and struck out 6. Hold- en Sullivan pitched the last 2 2/3. He struck out 4. Martinez(3hits) lead the offense of the Sox. Horner Stephany each had 2 hits. The O’s were led by Strollo, 4-4 with a 2B and Pfendler who was 3-3 with a 2B. Yankees 4 White Sox 2 Leading off for the Yankees in the first in- ning X avien X-Man Walker tripled and then was later scored on a Jake Higgins RBI single. The White Sox would answer with a run of their own after Parker Dowell singled and later scored in the inning. Both teams would be held scoreless in the second. In the third inning the Yankees Xavien Walk- er and Jake Higgins would again single. Both were scored on a Luke Lathan RBI single to put the Yan- kees up 3-1. The White Sox would answer in the third and again it would be Parker Dowell, singling and later scoring on a Jude Sherman RBI triple, to put the game at 3-2 in favor of the Yankees. The Yan- kees would add one run in the fifth inning after Jake Higgins singled and was scored on a Luke Lathan RBI single. Both teams were lead by outstanding pitch- ing. Tom Condidorio finished with 11 strikeouts for the White Sox. For the Yankees Andrew Pocock re- corded 6 strike outs while Xavien Walker recorded 8. Also adding hits for the Yankees Hunter Beverly had a double and for the White Sox Landon Saeva had a double. Twins 5 A’s 4 Abeautiful night during week 3 of little league saw the Twins vs. the home team A’s meet up as both clubs were itching to notch their second win of the season. The Twins came out ready to play and wasted no time getting their bats going!! Adam Woodworth hit the first pitch of the game for a solid single to left field to set the tone. Jacob Iten followed that up with a single to center; Tony Piazza would step into the box next looking for a hit of his own. He would deliver a single hit hard to the wall in center picking up the first RBI of the game. Ayden Riggi would give him- self some breathing room on the mound by cracking a booming double to left, clearing the bases picking up 2 RBI’s. Ryan Shirley, on the mound for the A’s struck out the next 2 batters and delivered a ground ball inducing pitch to end his half of the 1st inning. Twins 3 as the A’s came up to bat. Ayden Riggi took the mound for the Twins starting strong by striking out his 1st batter and then received some nice defense behind him. Jake Iten would make a nice grab to get Grady Gilligan with a 6-3 putout, but Shirley made sure the A’s did not go too quietly by stepping in to get his 1st hit of the game. 2 batters later Tony Piazza behind the plate for the Twins caught Shirley trying to steal third as he rapid fired a perfect throw to the waiting 3rd baseman Cameron Riggi who applied the tag for out #3. Awe- some effort by both!! Isaac Furr came up to bat in the 2nd inning and picked up his first hit of the season, congratulations to him on the first of many!! That would be the only hit of the inning for either side. The 3rd inning would see Tony Piazza pick up his 2nd hit of the game with Jack Egeling bringing him home on a sacrifice out at first. Cameron Riggi rounded out the inning with a single of his own while brother Ayden did his work in the bottom half on the mound setting the A’s down 1, 2, 3 for the second time. The 4th inning saw Twins right fielder, Evan Rose pick up his FIRST career little league hit, nice job Evan! Elijah Iten advanced the runner with a sin- gle, Woodworth kept the line moving with his 2nd single and Piazza came in behind him with his 3rd hit of the game snagging himself another RBI. Dylan Maciag got in on the fun with a single in the 5th and Adam Woodworth picked up his 3rd hit in the 6th. Ayden headed back to the mound with score sitting in the Twins favor at 5-2 however, the A’s would make things interesting as their first 2 batters would reach on errors. Ryan Shirley stepped in and turned on a pitch for a single to plate the first run of the 6th while an error in the field would bring around the second run, still no outs. Riggi would get a groundball 4-3 out after Zach Tooley got a ball past the mound and then strikeout the last batter he was able to face. Jacob Iten came in for the Twins to face Hayven Cordes, on the second pitch he grounded to Jack Egeling who knocked the ball down and promptly threw to Adam on first for the final out. Hitting for the Twins: Adam Woodworth 3 hits, 1 run scored, Jake Iten 1 hit, 1 BB and a run scored. Tony Piazza 3 hits, 2 runs scored & 2 RBI’s. Ayden Riggi 1 2B hit with 2 RBI’s. Isaac Furr 1 hit, Evan Rose 1sthit, Cameron Riggi, Dylan Maciag and Elijah Iten all with 1 hit. Hitting for theA’s Ryan Shir- ley led the team with 3 hits, an RBI & a run scored. Zach Tooley, Grady Gilligan & Hayven Cordes each recorded a hit with Kyle Northrup picking up his 1st. Shirley and Gilligan combined for 9 K’s, 1 BB and Ayden Riggi went 5 2/3 with 7 K’s and 1 BB. The final score of 5-4 capped off a fun to watch game that saw the Twins pick up their 2ndwin. Twins will meet up with the Red Sox on 5/12 @ 3pm while theA’s will face the Oriole’s at 11am that same day. Tigers 19 Indians 3 The Tigers would jump out to an early 6-0 lead in the first inning. Alex Spezzano singled and scored on Jackson Spezzano’s RBI double. Con- nor Hegeman reached followed by RBI singles by Lily Uberty, Josh Noble and a RBI double by Noah Kaczanowski. Aidan Weaver and Cam Wilson also added RBI’s in the 1st inning. The Indians would add one of their own in the bottom of the first as Maicen McKenzie scored after a leadoff walk. Tigers 6, In- dians 1. The Tigers would stay hot in the 2nd inning plating 3 more runs. Jackson Spezzano led off the inning with a double, followed by singles by Connor Hegeman and Lily Uberty. Josh Noble would drive in 2 with a towering blast to left field for his first Home Run of the season and 1st of his career. Tigers 9, Indians 1 The Tigers would add 5 more runs in the 3rd inning. Matt Covert walked to lead off followed by singles by Alex Spezzano, 2 RBI double by Connor Hegeman, single by Lily Uberty and RBI’s by Josh Noble and Noah Kaczanowski. Tigers 14, Indians 1. The Tigers would add two more runs in the 4th inning and 3 more in the 5th. The Indians would score two runs of their own in the 5th inning on a double by Maicen McKenzie, single by Chase Cummings and single by Iaein Frawley. Final Score Tigers 19, In- dians 3 Leading the Tigers on offense was Josh Noble who was 4-4 with a triple, Home Run, 4 RBI and 2 runs scored. Connor Hegeman was 4-5 with 4 runs scored and 3 RBI, Lily Uberty was 4-5 with 1 RBI and 3 runs scored. Jackson and Alex Spezzano com- bined for 6 hits, 3 each, to go with 5 runs scored and 2 doubles. Noah Kaczanowski was 3-5 with a dou- ble and run scored. Sierra Burk was 2-2 with a run scored. Matt Covert was 2-4 with 3 runs scored and Cam Wilson added a RBI single. Connor Hegeman recorded the win for the Tigers throwing 4 innings while giving up a hit and striking out 6. Josh No- ble recorded 3 outs for the Tigers and Alex Spezzano closed the game pitching the 6th inning. Offensively for the Indians, Chase Cummings was 2-3 with a run scored, Maicen McKenzie was 1-2 with a walk and 2 runs scored and Iaein Frawley add- ed a hit and a walk. Iaein Frawley, Chase Cummings, Jagger Smith and Maicen McKenzie teamed up for the pitching duties for the Indians. Orioles 7 Yankees 2 The Orioles and Yankees matched up on a comfortable Friday night. The visiting Orioles struck quickly in the top of the first inning. Drew Strollo walked, stole a base, and was eventually driven in by a two-out double by Holden Sullivan. After walks to Jace Jedrewski and Martin MacConnell, the red-hot Josh Pfendler stepped to the play. Josh would be hit by a pitch, allowing Sullivan to score giving the O’s the early 2-0 lead. The Yankees answered in the bottom of the first. Jake Higgins lined a bullet down the right field line, and was off to the races. Higgins would circle the bases for the inside the park HR, cutting the lead to 2-1 after 1 inning. Another walk to Drew Strollo would get things started for the O’s in the 2nd in- ning. He would be driven in by a double by Adrian Stephens. A walk to Merritt Holly and a passed ball would give the O’s runners at 2nd and 3rd. Aggres- sive base running would lead to both scoring on a Holden Sullivan fielder’s choice. Orioles pitcher Drew Strollo settled in in the bottom of the 2nd, striking out the side. In the top of the 3rd, a couple of rookies got things started for the Orioles. Isaac Stella got things started with a one out single, his first LL hit! Fellow 3rd grader Mia Strollo drew a walk. A single by Drew Strollo would load the bases. With 2 outs, Merritt Holly singled, scoring Stella and eventually Mia Strollo who alertly ran home when the Yankees defense threw behind her big brother Drew at 2nd base. Orioles 7 Yankees 1 after 3 innings. The second half of the game featured excel- lent pitching by both teams. The Yankees threatened in the bottom of the sixth, scoring with Simon Greene scoring on a walk to Jack Currin, however the Orioles were able to shut the door with the bases loaded the secure the win. Pitching for the Yankees were Xavien Walk- er, Jake Higgins, Luke Lathan, and Andrew Pocock. Higgins would lead the offensive attack with 2 hits in- cluding an inside the park HR. Walker tripled, while Pocock and Cam Maxwell added hits. Drew Strollo earned the win on the mound, going 5 1/3 innings, striking out 12 and walking 2. Adrian Stephens got the final two outs on the mound, striking out 1. Stephens and Holden Sullivan each had two hits, both scored twice, and drove in 1 and 3 respectively. Drew Strollo reached base all 4 times, with a single, 3 walks, and 2 runs. Merritt Holly sin- gled, scored, and drove in 2. Isaac Stella enjoyed his first LL hit, scoring as well as did Mia Strollo who earned a walk. Jace Jedrewski walked 3 times. Tigers 10 Yankees 8 The Tigers and Yanks kicked off the 4th Satur- day of the season in what would turn out to be a back and forth game. Both teams would each score a run in the 1st inning. Connor Hegeman hit a 2 out double for the Tigers and scored on Lily Uberty’s RBI single. Jake Higgins scored for the Yanks after reaching base and moving around on a combination of walks and hit batters. Tigers 1, Yankees 1. Both starting pitchers, Jackson Spezzano for the Tigers and Xavien Walker for the Yankees, would record scoreless 2nd innings. The 3rd inning would see a combined 8 runs as both teams scored 4 each. Alex Spezzano hit a one double followed by a single by Jackson Spezzano, RBI sin- gle by Connor Hegeman, 2 RBI single by Lily Uberty and RBI by Noah Kaczanowski. The Yankees would answer after Jake Higgins and Luke Lathan reached on consecutive errors. Andrew Pocock blasted a dou- ble followed by Simon Greene driving in a run. Ti- gers 5, Yankees 5. Sierra Burk led off the 5th with a single then with 1 out Alex Spezzano would drive her home with a RBI double followed by a RBI single by Jackson Spezzano, double by Connor Hegeman, RBI by Lily Uberty and RBI double by Josh Noble. Tigers 9, Yan- kees 5. The Yankees would counter punch in the bot- tom half scoring 3 runs of their own. Xavien “Xman” Walker led off with a walk followed by a single by Jake Higgins, walk by Luke Lathan and another big double by Andrew Pocock. Tigers 9, Yankees 8. The Tigers would add another run in the top of the 6th inning when Alex Spezzano scored on a RBI single by Connor Hegeman. Tigers 10, Yankees 8. The Yan- kees would bring the tying run to 2nd base in the bot- tom of the 6th inning after a single by Simon Green and double by Joey Biletskiy howeverAlex Spezzano would follow with a strike out and ground ball to short to close out an exciting, well-played game by both teams. Tigers 10, Yankees 8. Leading the Tigers offensively was Connor Hegeman who was 4-4 with 3 runs scored, 2 doubles and 2 RBI. Alex Spezzano was 2-4 with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored and a RBI. Jackson Spezzano was 2-3 with a walk and 2 runs scored. Lily Uberty and Josh Noble were both 2-4 with Lily adding a run scored. Aidan Weaver added a hit as did Sierra Burk. Jack- son Spezzano and Alex Spezzano split the pitching duties for the Tigers. Jackson threw 3 innings giving up 4 runs and striking out 8 batters and Alex threw the final 3 innings allowing 4 hits and striking out 3. For the Yankees, Jake Higgins was 3-4 with a double and 3 runs scored. Andrew Pocock was 2-3 with double and 2 RBI. Simon Greene added a single and Xman walked and scored. On the mound for the Yankees was Xavien Walker who threw 4 1/3 innings while striking out 6. Jake Higgins pitched the final 1 2/3 striking out 2. A’s 8 Orioles 7 (7 innings) Game 2 or the alphabet series proved to be just as exciting as game #1. The A’s came out on top with an 8-7 victory in extra innings. The A’s got on board first in the top of the 1st. Jackson Fix led off with a walk, stole second and third and scored on a wild pitch. O’s pitcher Merritt Holly would settle in after that striking out two of the next four to end the threat. It didn’t take long for the O’s to answer. Four walks and three hit batsman led to a 4-1 lead after one. The O’s tacked on two more in the second behind back to back to back hits by Hol- ly, Holden Sullivan and Jed Jedrewski. Following a quiet third by both teams, the O’s would get another in the bottom of the 4th when Jedrewski would rope a double down the third base line scoring Holly to make it 7-1 O’s. TheA’s would strike back in the top of the 5th. Walks by Kyle Northrup and Connor Elmore would lead to two runs on wild pitches. The 6th was when the A’s would make this a ball game. A two RBI sin- gle by Grady Gilligan would score Northrup and Jay Lathan who both had reached base on walks. Zach Tooley would single in two runs and the A’s tied the game at 7-7 going into the bottom of the 6th. The O’s would put a runner on first and sec- ond with one out before A’s reliever Zach Tooley would get a strikeout and pop-up to end the inning. In the seventh, Tooley would come up big again, sin- gling in Hayven Cordes who reached on a walk to give the A’s the lead 8-7. Tooley would strike out two and get a ground ball to put the O’s to bed in the bottom of the 7th securing the win for the A’s. Pitching for the Orioles were Merritt Holly and Holden Sullivan. Both would add 3 hits as did Jace Jedrewski. Drew Strollo tripled, was hit by a pitch and scored. Martin MacConnell and Isaac Stel- la also added hits. The A’s patience at the plate paid off, earn- ing 11 walks. Hitting for the A’s were Grady Gilli- gan (single) and Zach Tooley (single, double), while the following A’s scored – Connor Elmore, Jackson Fix, Hayven Cordes (2 runs), Tooley, Kyle Northrup (2 runs), and Jay Lathan. The win improves the A’s record to 2-5, the O’s fall to 4-4. Indians 16, White Sox 5 The Indians and White Sox squared off in their second match up of the season. The visiting In- dians would cash in after Cal Koukides stole home on a passed ball. In the home half of the 1st, the White Sox would tie things up at 1 after Parker Dowell scored on a throwing error to 3rd base. The Indians would add to their runs in the 2nd inning after con- secutive hits by William Bogan, CJ Zglinicki, Cole Tonzi, and Maicen McKenzie. Koukides would drive in a pair after hitting a triple to the left field wall. The Indians would add another in the 3rd when Jagger Smith scored on a hit by Tonzi to make the score 7-1. The White Sox would cut into the lead in the bottom of the 3rd with consecutive hits from Jude Sherman, Landen Saeva, and Tommy Condidorio. All would score as they each drove each other in on hits and Condidorio would be driven in on a hit to right center by Brayden Chase. The Indians would continue hit and add runs over the next 3 innings to seal the win. Maicen McKenzie pitched well for the Indi- ans going 5 2/3 innings, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits and striking out 7. Parker Dowell, Landen Saeva, and Joey Costa all made appearances on the mound for the White Sox. Offensively, the Indians were led by Austin Bogue (4 for 5 with 6 RBIs) and Cole Tonzi (4 for 4 with 2 RBIs). Also hitting for the Indians were Maicen McKenzie, Chase Cummings, Cal Koukides (triple, 2 singles), Iaein Frawley (2 singles), William Bogan, and CJ Zglinicki (double, single). Hitting for the White Sox were Parker Dow- ell (single, double), Jude Sherman (single, double), Landen Saeva (single, triple), Tommy Condidorio (double) and Brayden Chase. Red Sox 5 Twins 4 (7 innings) The Red Sox picked up their 3rd victory of the season with a well-played, thrilling win over the Twins. They would need 7 innings to get the hard fought win. The Twins jumped out to an early 3-0 in the first. Adam Woodworth and Jake Iten started things off with back-to-back singles and would later score on a Jack Egeling single giving the Twins the early 2-0 lead. Egeling came around to score himself on a Cam Riggi single to right field making the score 3-0 Twins after 1. Despite a Peter Clark single in the 2nd, the score remained 3-0 until the top of the third. With one out Jeremiah Sheehan would beat out an infield single. Sheehan can around to score on a RBI single from Joey Stephany. Stephany was on board when Tony Martinez blasted his 2nd HR of the season. This one was over the fence in left-center and would tie the game at 3-3. Wyatt Draper also singled in the inning but was unable to score. Neither of the squads were able to score in the fourth despite the Sox getting a single from Alex Stephany. The Twins regained the lead in the top of the 5th when they strung together for consecutive hits. Woodworth, Iten (2B), Tony Piazza and Aiden Rig- gi(2B) all had base hits but the Sox has a bend not break mind set and were able to hold them to just one run. They took a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the fifth where the Red Sox responded. Once again Joey Stephany hit a single and would score on a single from Martinez. The game was tied heading to the sixth. 4-4 The Twins weren’t able to score and despite a Jayce Panepento single in their half, neither were the Red Sox. The game was headed for extra innings. The Twins were able to get a couple runners on base in their half but the Red Sox pitching struck out consec- utive batters, leaving those runners on 2nd and 3rd. Josh Horner lead off the bottom the 7th with a single over the Twins’ jumping shortstop.After a passed ball and a groundout, Martinez stepped up to the plate and hit a deep sacrifice fly to center field scoring Horner and giving the Red Sox the win. Final score was 5-4. Martinez led the Sox with a huge day at the plate. Tony was 3-3 with a triple and Home run. He had 4 RBI on the day. Joey Stephany chipped in with 2 hits if his own. The Twins were led by A. Riggi and Iten. Both had 2 hits with both of Riggi’s being doubles. Adam Woodworth was spectacular on the mound for the Twins. He would pitch 6 innings and struck out 11 Red Sox hitters. Iten pitched the last 2/3. The Sox split the pitching between Stephany, Horner and Draper. Stephany pitched the first 2 in- nings striking out 3. Horner pitched the middle 2 1/3 innings. He struck out 4. Draper threw the last 2 2/3. He struck out 5. Both teams played an excellent ball game and both should be proud.
