LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - MARCH 4, 2018 Re-Elect Bill Kettle for Village Trustee Fellow LeRoyans, It’s hard to believe that four years have passed since I was elected as one of your Village of LeRoy Trustees. Pennysaver on March 9, 2014. In this ad, I spoke of why I was running for Village Trustee, my concerns, my hopes and my vision for a better LeRoy. In this week’s edition I would like to provide the following summary of my 2014 posting and what has transpired over the last 4 years: FIRST 2014 CONCERN: Number of Vacant Businesses and Vacant Homes in our Community LAST FOUR YEAR RESULTS Vacant Home Registry “Village of LeRoy Vacant Home Registry” which passed unanimously. This registry will provide the necessary legislation to address the neglect- ed properties within our Village so that they can be either restored to our vibrant community and tax base or demolished and removed from the list of eyesore properties that plague the overall curb appeal of our community. Tax Abatement Programs I presented the following resolutions to the Village of LeRoy board, which passed and became local laws: Resolution: 485 b Commercial/Industrial Improvement Exception Resolution: 485a Commercial Conversion to mixed use Resolution: 421f Capital Improvement Exemption All three of these laws offer a partial exemption from real property taxation for capital improvements to both residential and commercial property. SECOND 2014 CONCERN Evaluating best practices and look for ideas on how to “right size” or “re-purpose“ our Main Street LAST FOUR 4 YEAR RESULTS In an effort to practice what I preach, as a Main Street building owner I’ve invested and taken abandoned space that was once used for apartments and have re-purposed this space to now house two new businesses on our Main Street: Indoor Batting Cage: Indoor baseball instruction for our community and our surrounding communities’ youth Jiu Jitsu, and boxing instruction for our communities’ youth and adults THIRD 2014 CONCERN I believe we need to utilize the Oatka Creek as a draw to attract people to LeRoy. I asked if you could envision kids and families skating on the Creek. I asked if you could envision teams competing in a boat regatta during the Oatkafest. LAST FOUR YEAR RESULTS Regatta Along with a number of “Pro Regatta” LeRoyans, I was on the Regatta Committee for the 2015 Oatkafest. As a result of the efforts of our committee the Regatta was brought back for both the 2015 and 2016 Oatkafest. In 2017, although we were .tneve eht dloh ot tsaf oot saw tnerruc keerC aktaO eht dna ni deppets erutan-rehtom smaet hguone gniruces ni lufsseccusnu For this year’s 2018 Oatkafest I’m excited to learn that another local business owner is looking to take the Regatta reins and Ice Skating I, along with my fellow board members approved ice skating on the creek when weather conditions are appropriate. Our village DPW and town recreation personnel immediately stepped up and readied the creek for our communities’ youth and adults to enjoy. I even saw some hockey being played on the creek this winter, which was an awesome sight! Lastly, I’d like to restate a point I made in my 2014 post which was, “I hope you take the time to vote and when you do prosper”. I’m very honored to be a part of the accomplishments that have occurred since I made that statement but there is much more work to do including a multi-million dollar upgrade to our Village Sewer Plant. My work experience with Fortune 500 companies has given me the valuable experience to assist in the project management and negotiation on these types of large-scale construction projects. It has been an honor and a privilege to work along side so many like minded LeRoyans and serve as one of your Village Trustees the last four years. I would greatly appreciate your vote on March 20th to continue the efforts that will allow our village to thrive for generations to come and continue the positive changes that have occurred within our community! Thank you LeRoy!
