LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - FEBRUARY 18, 2018 LeRoy Youth Wrestling The LeRoy Youth Wres- tling Club sent 3 grapplers to The Niagara Wheatfield Athlet- ic Association (NWAA) tour- nament this past weekend and had outstanding results. The Wojtaszczyk Brothers, David and Dawson along with Colin Green woke up before the roost- er on Sunday to compete against Buffalo’s best. Dawson Wojtaszczyk’s first match was against Tommy Slack (Clarence). They wres- tled a month ago in Lockport in an absolute thriller that Dawson won 11-7. Since then “DoJo” has found his MoJo and has been wrestling at an EXCEL- LENT level. At this level Slack had no answers for constant at- tack style grappling. Wojo wins 17-0. Dawson would rock his next opponent to cradle city and win via pin. In the finals, Daw- son faced #2 NYS ranked 65 pounder Evan Azbell. Dawson is not ranked in the NYS poll, outworked Azbell and was the more explosive wrestler taking a 12-4 decision and 1st place. David Wojtaszczyk has been resilient and tough all sea- son, beating up kids he should be beating up and taking some hard losses to elite opponents. In David’s 1st bout he overwhelmed Musa Thomp- son. The younger Wojo brother is fearless with heavy pressure and the strength of a Man-Child. David sticks to fundamentals and pins Musa with his favorite finishing move, bar & half. David then would be chal- lenged against #3 NYS ranked Brady Hopkins. Hopkins best- ed David’s teammate Colin Green a week prior and a re- venge motive was intact. David in a loss, via 3rd period pinfall was only down 4 to the ultra talented Hopkins. An inspiring loss that will make Wojo better as the season closes. David would close his day with a victory to grab 2nd place. Troy Dellapenta had little resis- tance for Wojo. A well earned trophy for a hard days work. Colin Green faced a mur- der’s row last week in Rush. Green faced #1, #2 & #3 NYS ranked wrestlers and came out on the wrong end. Green’s confidence waining faced a confident Jojo Klinger in bout 1. Jojo slapped Green’s hand with the confidence of Kyle Dake. Green with a short memory serves Jojo a fresh helping of humble pie via first period pin. Colin then takes bout 2 with aggressiveness that would make any dad proud. His phys- icality overwhelmed his oppo- nent as he quit midway through the bout. Green wins via forfeit. Green then faced Mayson Simmons (Grindhouse) in the finals. Simmons was bullying the bully and led 11-8 going into the final period. Green is nasty in top position and turns Simmons for 2 back points to close the gap 11-10. Short time left and Green turns Sim- mons again at the buzzer. After a referee meeting 2 more back points for LeRoy’s Green and a 12-11 stone cold stunner. Colin Green bounces back and takes 1st place. Next week the team trav- els to Hilton NY with a full squad that is prepared and battle tested.
