LeRoy Pennysaver & News

LE ROY PENNYSAVER & NEWS - FEBRUARY 11, 2018 LeRoy Youth Wrestling Penfield NY: The Leroy Youth Wrestling Team compet- ed in its first ever quad meet courtesy of the Greater Roch- ester Youth Wrestling League (GRYWL). The host team Penfield, along with Pittsford and Hilton welcomed LeRoy as a last minute addition to entice the club to join next season. Co-Founder of the newest version of The LeRoy Youth Wrestling Club & board Pres- ident, Matt Wojtaszczyk was hesitant to take the leap into GRYWL. “How can we compete with these larger dis- tricts, that have developed pro- grams?”, asked Wojtaszczyk. This reservation could only be answered by getting out of the teams comfort zone and com- peting against Monroe Counties finest. LEROY 37 PITTSFORD 27 In the first dual meet Le- Roy faced Pittsford. Carson “Nutter” Stiles the fearless 1st grader opened the dual at 50lbs against his “friend”, who he talks to at every tournament. Nutter wasted no time with a first period pin. Austyn Silver- nail and his practice partner Ry- der Stiles faced Pittsford wres- tlers that they had matched up with earlier in the season. Sil- vernail won 6-0, the same exact score as 3 weeks prior. R. Stiles avenged a 8-7 loss and won 6-2. Dawson Wojtaszczyk, Joey Stephany, and Tony Piazza all won by pin. Piazza, did his best im- personation of Bo Jackson and Deon Sanders. The 2 sport star (basketball) was taking a break from wrestling until his coach called him in for the dual meet. Piazza saved LeRoy by just be- ing in the line up. LeRoy won 37-27. Take away Piazza’s 6 point pin and give Pittsford 6 points for the forfeit and LeRoy loses. LEROY 34 HILTON 27 Carson “Nutter” Stiles started of dual #2 with an ex- citing 6-6 overtime match. In OT a tidal wave ripped through “Nutter Island”, the waves were so big and powerful it ripped Stiles off his feet and onto his back. Hilton wins via pin and takes a 6-0 lead. The LeRoy crowd was silenced and in doubt against rugged Hilton. Colin Green would earn a tough decision to turn the mo- mentum then it was Wojo time. David and DawsonWojtaszczyk Wrestling at 60 & 65 pounds throttled their opponents with pins. Jordon Green would fol- low with a pin of his own. The most exciting bout of the evening belonged to Jeremi- ah Sheehan. In his first wres- tling competition ever Jeremiah was down 4-3 with 7 seconds left in the bout, scored a 2 point reversal as time expires bring- ing LeRoy fans to their feet. Sheehan wins! Alex Doty, Joey Stephany and Joey Reschke all took tough grinding decisions to score team points for LeRoy. LEROY 33 PENFIELD 35 In the final dual of the night LeRoy versus host Penfield. The Mystic of Penfield’s great- ness was evident. Their wres- tling room near the pre match weigh ins has produced great- ness. Gissendaner and a slew of Kropman’s have dominated Section V for years. Team LeRoy was feeling strong, and mystic free agreed to not duck Penfield’s ultra tough Kropman at 85 pounds. Joey Stephany has proved himself in recent weeks and was 2-0 on the night. Stephany in defeat earned the respect of Penfield for facing the beast and the ad- miration from his team to have the courage to face Kropman. Earning pins for LeRoy, Austyn Silvernail, Dawson Wo- jtaszczyk and Joey Reschke. The LeRoy Youth Wres- tling team goes 2-1 in exhibition GRYWL dual answering the un- known.
