Tonowanda NY: The Le- Roy Youth Wrestling Team sent 9 wrestlers to the Tonowanda Elite Wrestling tournament this past weekend. The Elite title was not a misnomer as every entrant in the Tonowanda Mid- dle School gym was a superior grappler that trains all year. David Wojtaszczyk (Wojo) does not focus solely on wres- tling as he is coming off a bril- liant football campaign where his physicality and intensity were on full display every week. The sack master took off the pads and put on the Wojo sin- glet and was every-bit as dom- inant on the mat as he was on the football field. David Wojo went 3-0 on the day, recording two pins to take first place (2nd of his career). Carson “Nutter” Stiles took 1st place in a 3 kid round rob- in format. In Nutter’s first match of the day he decked the Gene Mills National final- ist in the first period via pin. In his second match Nutter lost a 5-4 heartbreaker to Fairport’s R. Francisco. That match left all 3 grapplers with an identical 1-1 record on the day. The tie breaker committee tallied the criteria and Stiles always seems to have extra Aces in his hand on his Magical Island and pulls off the first place trophy grab (2nd of his career). Joey Reshke was a hammer all football season. The bruis- ing fullback and linebacker blasted the CYFL’s best compe- tition all fall. In his first match Reshke proved that he is multi dimensional, cruising to a 10-4 decision. Reshke would lose in the finals to an ultra tough com- petitor to take 2nd place . Colin Green, Ryder Stiles and Austin Silvernail faced Di- vision 2’s best wrestlers in 3 different brackets. All 3 LeRoy wrestlers competed with Roch- ester and Buffalo’s finest and held their own. Look for all 3 of the Division 2 wrestlers to make improvements as the sea- son progresses. Joey Stephany and Daw- son Wojtaszczyk (Wojo) took a big step up in competition and proved they belong on the same mat as the areas finest wrestlers. Stephany who is fearless gave 100% to finish 3rd. Dawson Wojo wrestled tough all day and took a respectable 4th place. The LeRoy Youth Wrestling Team who practices at Oatka Family Medicine in Stafford NY will compete this Sunday in Batavia.
