The Knights physically domi- nated the Bills, leaving no ques- tions unanswered regarding this intense rivalry. GVB won the toss and elected to defer to the second half. LeRoy received the kick- off and started around midfield after an onside kick. LeRoy’s offensive line dominated up front, pushing the larger Bills front back as LeRoy’s running backs found huge holes as they marched down the field. Drew Strollo found the end zone with an 8-yard blast up the middle, following excellent blocks from DJ O’Geen, Adrian Stephens, and Josh Horner to give LeRoy an early 6-0 edge. GVB looked to even the score, however LeRoy’s defense had other ideas. On GVB’s first play from scrim- mage, LeRoy linebackers Drew Strollo and Jackson Fix ham- mered the GVB runner, forcing a fumble which a hustling Jack Egeling recovered. LeRoy’s of- fense began on GVB’s 46, and the marching continued. Con- stant big gains by the Knights kept GVB’s defense off balance. Quarterback “T-Smooth” Tom- my Condidorio hit Drew Strollo with a perfectly timed screen, and Strollo followed excellent blocks by Jackson Fix and the human meatball, Tony Piazza to dart into the endzone for a 20- yard TD. A failed conversion left the score at 12-0 still in the first quarter. GVB took over on offense and did not fold. Af- ter a short loss, GVB’s offense answered with a well-designed trick play, hitting a receiver in stride with a 55-yard TD pass. The conversion attempt failed after Hollywood Hunter Bev- erly wrestled down the runner, leaving the score at 12-6 LeRoy. GVB again attempt- ed an onside kick, however this time they succeeded and took the ball over around midfield. A fired up LeRoy defense looked to stop the momentum, and that they did. After tackles for loss by Drew Strollo and Cal Koukides, GVB was forced to punt. Strollo took the punt and returned it for 25 yards setting up the offense at GVB’s 33. As the second quarter began, Le- Roy continued to move the ball at will behind great blocking by Zach Tooley, Holden Sullivan, Hunter Beverly, and Koukides. However, the GVB defense stiffened, and on fourth and goal from the 1 held the Knights with a big defensive surge. LeRoy’s defense smelled blood in the water, and again forced a punt after 3 plays. LeRoy took over the ball on GVB’s 20, and made quick work. Sizable gains by Drew Strollo, Jackson Fix, and Tony Piazza put the ball on GVB’s 6. Again, QB Tommy Condidorio was razor sharp, hitting Strollo downfield for their 2nd TD combo of the game. Condidorio would hit Fix with a pass to suc- ceed on the conversion, giving the Knights a 20-6 lead. GVB’s offense con- tinued to struggle as LeRoy defenders forced another quick turnover on downs after a fake punt. A couple of quick runs by LeRoy took the game to the half, with LeRoy holding a 20-6 commanding lead. GVB started the 2nd half on offense, however after a tackle for loss by the “Scare- crow,” Connor Hegeman and an incomplete pass they were forced to punt again. LeRoy’s offense would turn over the ball on downs afterwards, as GVB’s defense tightened. GVB’s of- fense began to move the ball, taking advantage of good field position. After moving the ball inside the Knights 10-yard line, the Bills faithful was as raucous as ever. Jackson Fix put an end to that noise in an instant. Fix jumped a pass route inside the 5-yard line, intercepted the ball and flew down the field for what the LeRoy fans have come known to enjoy as a “Fix Six.” The 98-yard interception re- turn for TD excited the visiting crowd as much as it silenced the home crowd, as LeRoy’s lead climbed to 26-6. LeRoy kicked off to GVB and the defense was as dominant as ever. Another quick punt gave the ball back to LeRoy after 4 plays. The punt was a boomer, and LeRoy start- ed on their own 10-yard line to start the 4th quarter. The of- fense methodically moved the ball down the field behind runs from an array of runners includ- ing Cal Koukides and Adam Woodworth, milking the clock and moving the chains for the entire quarter. Eighteen snaps later, LeRoy’s offense knelt on the ball inside the GVB 5-yard line to secure the victory and take over sole possession of 1st place in the Northern Division. LeRoy’s offense moved the ball at will for the entire game, running inside, running outside, and throwing as the unit looked like a well-oiled machine. Drew Strollo led the offensive attack with 111 yards rushing (1 TD) and 26 yards re- ceiving (2 TDs). Jackson Fix ran for 33 yards and caught a conversion attempt. Tony Piaz- za ran for 31 yards, but his pres- ence was felt as a blocker as he punished defenders all day long with bruising blocks. Tommy Condidorio eluded pass rush- ers with his feet and threw for 2 TDs and a conversion attempt. Cal Koukides added 35 yards on the ground and Adam Wood- worth provided a nice change of pace running the ball as well. Jackson Fix pro- vided the highlight reel play on defense with a 98-yard inter- ception return on defense to put the final nail in the coffin. Fix added 3 tackles, as did Connor Hegeman, Cal Koukides, and Hunter Beverly. Drew Strollo added 8 tackles with counter- part Tony Piazza adding 5 in ag- gressive fashion. The X-Man, Xavien Walker made multiple stops as did Adam Woodworth. Jack Egeling had a huge fumble recovery, while Holden Sulli- van, Luke Lathan, Alex Spez- zano, Jude Sherman, and Peter Clark all contributed with tack- les as well. The defense played extremely aggressively and disciplined, shutting down the 2nd highest scoring squad in the CYFL. The 6-0 Senior Knights return home to Hart- wood Park for a 10/15 Sunday afternoon battle with the 5-1 York Knights. With a victory the Oatkan Knights can clinch a berth in the CYFL champion- ship game.
